Barbie is the most popular fashion doll ever produced. She was created by American businesswoman Ruth Handler in 1959, named after her daughter Barbara. Barbie was joined by Ken in 1961, named after Ruth's son Kenneth.

Barbie is manufactured by American toy company Mattel, and is the figurehead of the Barbie brand that includes a range of fashion dolls and accessories. 

More than 100 Barbie dolls are sold every minute across 150 countries around the world.
